got this item to capture video from old analog VHS tapes. Since the device is fairly old, it may simply be no longer supported using current chipsets. Finally, the device has an FM tuner, that in theory allows you to capture FM radio, but every time I tried to use it, the capture application would crash. I have seen some reviews that suggest that this is related to the sound drivers, but even with the most recent drivers for both my sound chip and for the UTV3 I could not capture any sound. For reference I tried this on a win XP system running SP3. As mentioned in another review, you can hear some sound if you plug a headset in the sound output jack of the box, but even then the sound was too faint to hear. Unfortunately, while it does capture video and records it in several formats with the enclosed application, I could not find a way to also capture the sound. The device is also an analog tuner, but since all TV broadcasts are now digital in the US, you will not be able to use it for that.
Additionally, the installation of the UTV3 drivers somehow managed to disrupt my normal sound reproduction in my PC so that all sound from my speakers became "crackly". I suspect there's simply a conflict with the device driver and my sound drivers, but cannot find a set of drivers that will work. I suspect again a conflict with my system. Best of luck if you want to purchase this item, it may work on some older systems as a viable capture device, but it did not work for me.
Decent quality as long as you don't have high expectations. If you want really high quality you don't want a USB TV tuner.There were also a lot of problems with sound, but they had more to do with my laptop's sound card.Overall I would recommend you check your other options, and make sure this is what you want. If this fits your needs, it works well.
The video through the composite port is very good. I already had it, installed it again by accident, and it crashed my computer. I'm very happy with the Geniatech USB TV Tuner. When installing the tv tuner's software, you have the option of installing DirectX 9.0c. Download and install the largest one and you're all set.Despite those two hangups that most people won't even have to worry about, this is, overall, a very good buy. The video through the tv port is decent, though a bit fuzzy. It will tell you if you need to install DirectX 9.0c.
If you have a Sigmatel Audio sound card like those on dell inspiron 1501 laptops, you have to download a new driver from LG at to get a line-in option to make the sound work. It does it's job and was inexpensive. I tried again without reinstalling directx, and it installed just fine.2. The picture size is completely adjustable on your screen, but the remote isn't great.I didn't see it listed anywhere on the website, but the box says it requires a CPU of 2.0GHz or higher, but it works fine on 1.6GHz.Two warnings:1. If you already have it or don't know if you do just go to the Driver and Software installs on the setup window and install those. Go to the site, click "Software Upgrades", fill in "computer products", "notebook", your operating system, and search "sigmatel". And after searching the web for many hours, I decided that FOR A PRODUCT UNDER $50, THIS IS THE BEST OPTION.
If you have tapes, which are becoming obsolete, you should use this to convert them to DVD format. Great Item. Now all of your tapes and DVD's can be backed up.
After that, just burn it to a DVD. You do have to watch the film to its entirety in order to copy it to your computer. Using the WINTVR3 that comes with this item, you can play your tape/dvd through the VHS/DVD player, and record to your computer.
If you have a connection from your camera/camcorder to your TV via the AV (Audio Video (Yellow Red White)) cables, you can even copy a video you created to a DVD with this device. It's great for those memorable moments. If you just want to watch TV on your computer, it's great for that as well.
If you ever lose your usb connection, it is the standard usb connection from a printer to a computer, which you can find in any electronic store. I love it, and use it often.
this tuner saved me buying a new screen, so everything i would like to use like : ps2, 3, xbox360, dvd player.etc anything with AV cable i can use it and enjoy.also it has a plug to watch tv on your pc screen, and it records whatever you watching and also it has FM radio.when you read all about this it may be good but the quality isn't what you expect.if the quality was better this tuner would be perfect.
